The pool we had to replace was an aluminum 24 ft diameter pool. That had pitted
from oxidation. This was caused by the way the pool was buried. There was no
drainage around the pool.
The lesson I learn was that there should be drainage around the pool if it is
partially underground.
The new pool that we put in was a 30ft diameter that was partial buried because
of the slight slop of the yard. Also I did not wait to put fill where the old pool once
was.
When the pool was installed I was told as long as I used No.2 runner crush stone
for drainage I would be okay. Even though the photos look like the pool is sunk half
way into the ground it isn't’t. The ground has a slight incline which gives it the
illusion that it is buried deep. At the highest point I have about 16-18 inches of
runner crush stone and inch of topsoil and 2 inches of wash stone. My soil is
made up of clay not great of drainage thus the use of the crush stone for drainage.
I have not had a problem with the pool yet. The water seems to train well away
from the pool.
